|

Hi, i am working on my old Elna Supermatic. I have used this machine before to sew with a double-needle on stretchy fabric.
When i sew on non-stretch, the topstitch finish is excellent. As soon as i swop over to stretchy fabric (and i have tried all different kinds) the right needle does not pick up the cotton and only the left needle sews.
I have played with the tension and am sure it is not that. Before i go and get my timing redone, do you know if there could be some other reason for this happening?
Thank you!!! |

Are you using a double needle for knits, or a standard double needle? On some knit fabrics, the ball point double needle is essential. _________________ Kate XXXXXX R.C.T.Q Madame Chef des Trolls

I had this issue years ago with my Supermatic. I took it to a very good repairman and he found that one of the gears was missing a tooth.
Other repairmen had fooled with timing, etc, but it was this simple gear that needed replacing. Once it was replaced, the machine has not, to this day (20 years later) ever skipped a stitch.
The suggestion I have is that you look up the finest repair person in your area by reputation. Since Elnas have been around in SA for years and years, someone is sure to be an expert. |
